With 'HR Review' sharing their latest research on the absence and lateness trends of 2018, it is worrying to see that 77% of UK employees are not using their full holiday entitlement.
Employers should be proactive in ensuring that work-life balance is promoted with employees taking regular breaks from work. Not only is this beneficial for well-being and productivity, it can also boost retention and engagement.
You may think that having your employees spend more time in the office is great for productivity but this is not the case. Instead, it will likely create higher stress levels, reduction in creativity, productivity and performance, and an increase in absence and health problems.
By encouraging your employees to use all their holiday and switch off entirely during these periods you can create happier, more engaged and productive employees whilst reducing stress and boosting focus.
Worryingly, by the end of 2018, 77 per cent of employees had unused holiday left over, which has been a worrying presenteeism trend as employees aren’t getting the rest they require to properly fulfil their jobs.
